How to join Restless

Restless works on Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. Find your device below and follow the steps.

Java Edition

Java Edition (Windows, Mac and Linux)

  1. Open the game and click Multiplayer.
  2. Click Add Server.
  3. Type a name you'll remember, like Restless. In Server Address, type:

    play.restlessmc.net

  4. Click Done. Pick Restless in your server list and click Join Server.

Most game versions work. We recommend the latest version.

If the game says multiplayer is disabled, you may be on a child account. A parent needs to change a setting. See child accounts.

Bedrock Edition on phones, tablets and Windows

  1. Open the game and tap Play.
  2. Open the Servers tab.
  3. Tap Add Server.
  4. Fill in the boxes:
    • Server Name: Restless
    • Server Address: play.restlessmc.net
    • Port: 19132

  5. Save it, then pick Restless in the list to join.

Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch

On consoles, the game has no box for typing a server address. We can't change that. You can still join with one of the free ways below. The first one is the easiest.

The app and the DNS method are made by other people, not by Restless. They are not official features of the game or of your console.

Use the BedrockConnect app

BedrockConnect is a free app for iPhone and Android, made by GKM Interactive. It tells your console where to find Restless. The free version shows an ad before it connects. You don't need the paid Premium version.

  1. Put your phone and your console on the same Wi-Fi. Turn off any VPN, and don't use mobile data.
  2. Get the free BedrockConnect app from the App Store or Google Play. Check that the maker is GKM Interactive. Their website is bedrockconnect.app.
  3. Open the app. Go to the Custom tab and tap the blue + button.
  4. Fill in the boxes, then tap Save:
    • Name: Restless
    • IP address: play.restlessmc.net
    • Port: 19132
  5. Tap Restless, then tap the blue Start button. On iPhone, if it asks about your local network, tap OK. The app needs this to work.
  6. On your console, open the game and look at your world list. Restless shows up there. Select it to join.
  7. Once you're in, you can close the app.

Change your console's DNS

Ask a grown-up to help with this one

This changes your console's internet settings (its DNS). It affects everything on the console, not just the game. Write down your current settings first, so you can put them back when you're done.

This uses the free BedrockConnect DNS server. It's an open-source project, and it's separate from the app above. You can read about it on the BedrockConnect project page.

  1. Open your console's network settings and find the DNS settings. Set them to Manual.
    • Xbox: Settings, General, Network settings, Advanced settings, DNS settings.
    • Nintendo Switch: System Settings, Internet, Internet Settings. Pick your network, then Change Settings, DNS Settings.
    • PlayStation 5: Settings, Network, Settings, Set Up Internet Connection. Pick your network, then Advanced Settings, DNS Settings.
    • PlayStation 4: Settings, Network, Set Up Internet Connection, Custom. Choose Manual for DNS Settings.
    Menu names can be a little different on your console.
  2. Type in these addresses:
    • Xbox and Nintendo Switch: Primary DNS 104.238.130.180, Secondary DNS 8.8.8.8
    • PlayStation 4 and 5: Primary DNS 45.55.68.52, Secondary DNS 8.8.8.8
  3. Save. Open the game and go to the Servers tab.
  4. Join one of the featured servers, for example The Hive or Lifeboat. Instead of that server, a BedrockConnect server list opens.
  5. Choose to connect to a server. Enter play.restlessmc.net and port 19132.
  6. When you've finished playing, put your DNS settings back the way they were (or set them to Automatic).

Doesn't work? Some consoles block the main address. The BedrockConnect project page lists other addresses to try, including ones in other countries.

Your first visit

Everyone arrives in Kingsgate, our hub city. Use the compass (Game Menu) in your hotbar to pick a game.

The Kingdom SMP opens to everyone on . Our RPG, Aetherreach, is coming soon.

Voice chat (optional, Java only)

On the Kingdom SMP, and on Aetherreach when it opens, you can talk to players near you. This uses a free mod called Simple Voice Chat. There is no voice chat in Kingsgate, our hub.

  • It only works on Java Edition, and only if you install the mod. No mod means no voice chat.
  • Press V to open the voice chat menu. From there you can mute anyone, or turn voice chat off.
  • We don't record voice chat, and staff can't listen to it. If someone is unkind, mute them and tell a staff member.

How to install it

  1. Install Fabric with the official installer from fabricmc.net.
  2. Download Simple Voice Chat for your game version from its official Modrinth page. Pick a Fabric version that matches your game version.
  3. Put the file in your game's mods folder.
  4. Start the game with the Fabric profile and join Restless.

Only download mods from the official pages linked here. Never install files that strangers send you.

Playing on a child account

Microsoft child accounts have online multiplayer switched off at first. Players under 13 can't join servers like ours until a parent changes their settings.

A parent can do this from their own Microsoft account. Our parents' guide shows which settings to change.
